Region & Accommodation – marche-lirica

regionRegionĀ & Accommodation:

The Marche region is situated in central Italy and is comprised of five provinces; the capital of Ancona, Fermo, Macerata, Ascoli Piceno and Pesaro e Urbino.

The entire eastern coastline of the region is on the Italian Adriatic coast.

Whilst most of the major towns and villages have settled in the coastal area, the inland part is mainly agricultural land.

The western part of the region is marked in particular by mountain ranges boasting an abundance of beautiful canyons and caves worth visiting. The eastern part comprises a coastal area consisting primarily of sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and idyllic coves. The 180 kilometre long coast also makes this region a popular holiday destination for beach-lovers who visit towns like Senigallia, Pesaro, Gabicce Mare or San Benedetto del Tronto, known for their nightlife. There are also very nice villages which are less geared to tourism and thus quieter. Rising to 2,476 metres, the highest point in the Marche is the Monte Vettore belonging to the Sybillin Mountains.

The Marche borders the Emilia Romagna in the north, Tuscany and Umbria in the west, and the Abruzzi region in the south.
